History
Established in 2000 as a collaboration between the esteemed Golan Heights Winery and Kibbutz Yiron, Galil Mountain Winery embodies a fusion of ancient winemaking heritage and contemporary innovation. Situated in Israel's Upper Galilee—a region with over 2,000 years of viticultural history—the winery has revitalized local traditions through sustainable practices and advanced technology.
Location
Nestled near Kibbutz Yiron, Galil Mountain Winery is perched atop the Upper Galilee mountain range, one of Israel's highest elevations, reaching over 1,000 meters above sea level. This location offers a unique microclimate with warm days and cool nights, ideal for cultivating high-quality grapes.
Vineyards and Wines
The winery manages six vineyards at elevations ranging from 420 to 800 meters, benefiting from diverse soil types like limestone, flint, terra rossa, and basalt. This variety contributes to a rich portfolio of wines, including the flagship Yiron blend, Meron, and Avivim. Galil Mountain's commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of solar power, wastewater treatment systems, and organic composting methods.
Winemaker
In 2024, David Bar-Ilan was appointed head winemaker, bringing extensive experience from his tenure at Tulip Winery and Maya Winery. Holding a master's degree in Viticulture from Hebrew University, Bar-Ilan oversees the winery's agricultural departments and winemaking processes, ensuring the production of high-quality, innovative wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Upper Galilee.
